John Wesley Chambers

1917-1991

Chambers, a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins, was born in Baltimore. He received his A.B. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1939, and his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1943. After a residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, Chambers completed a fellowship in neurosurgery at the Lahey Clinic in Boston.

In 1947, Chambers established a private neurosurgery practice in Baltimore. He held a faculty appointment at Johns Hopkins as an assistant professor of neurologic surgery and served on the staffs of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital, Church Home and Hospital, and Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

A coauthor of several textbooks and author of a number of scientific papers, he was an expert in pituitary gland surgery. He retired in 1983.
